Huge success to 29th Health fair at the Midwest Swaminarayan Temple

Chicago IL: The 29th Health Fair was successfully completed at Midwest Swaminarayan Temple in Itasca Illinois. The goal was to provide medical check up to all those who may not be able to afford medical services due to insurance and medical coverage problems. The widely publicized Health Fair provided medical check up to more than 405 participants.

The event took place on Sunday, on September 11, 2011 in the main hall of the temple, and was sponsored by the temple, Lohana Association of Greater Chicago, Gujarati Samaj and Kadva Patidar Samaj. Long lines of participants early in the morning show the success of this activity for the last several years. As per Jayantibhai Thakkar, this was the 29th Health Fair coordinated by him. The first one was started at Manav Seva Mandir back in 1989 and he continued this service also in other temples. It is important to recognize his selfless and dedicated work on people’s health check up, by which more than 8,500 patients have benefited so far.

More than 25 doctors and 100 health professionals provided their volunteer services on this day. Registration and front desk services were provided by Manubhai Shah, Naliniben Shah, Bhupendra Thakkar, Nareshbhai Dekhtawala, Devikaben Trivedi, Bhartiben Desai and Bharat Mehta.

Vital data such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, were checked for each participant. These services were provided by Rachit Parikh, Akshay Raju and Krunal Vyas, Hema Shastri, Dakshaben Thakkar, Dr. Hina Patel, Suresh Patel and Rajiv Desai. The Blood Sugar testing and consultation were provided by Kishore Chugh, Vivek Patel, Urvashi Thakkar, Amisha Mehta, Jalpa Patel, Rajesh Chotalia and Parul Patel.

Volunteers were seen very busy at the blood draw tables. Volunteers for this service include Bhagvat Thakkar , Bakul Thakkar, Janak Patel, Falguni Thakkar, Sonal Thakkar, Hiren Khambhati and team of 12 other medical professionals. .Blood samples of 390 patients were collected. These samples were sent to the ACL laboratory for testing. The reports will be reviewed by the doctors and will be mailed to each patient in three weeks with the follow up instructions..

Urine Analysis was performed by Dimple Thakkar, Madeha Khambhati , Alkaben Patel, Zarna Thakkar and other volunteers.

The patients were seen by Triage physicians Dr. Vijay Patel and Dr. Kishore Rana who recommended blood, urine and EKG tests as required.

Physical examination and Physical consultation were provided by Physician doctors include Dr V.K.Patel, Dr. Ashok Shah, Dr Jayashree Raju, Dr. Pratimaben Shah and Dr Hiten Patel.

There were 5 EKG Machines were used to provided EKG for Male and female over age 55 and continually operated by many volunteers including Rita Parikh, Chaya Marfatia, Ramesh Thakkar, Jaya Patel , Nayan Barot, Mark Murphy, Urmila Pandya and Maureen Downing.

EKG were read and interpreted to the patient by Cardiologists Dr. Samir Shah and Dr Umang Patel. About 120 EKG were performed. Dental Examination and consultation were provided by Dr. Amrit Patel and Dr. Dhiren Mistry and Dr. Nita Patel.

There were Nutritional, Diet and Diabetes were consulted and explained by Diabetes educator Diptiben Shah. Mammogram and Peps registration done by June Yang, Sarah Rao, Carla Zang and Arista Wang from Xilin Association in Naperville, IL

Eye Screening and consultation were provided by Dr. M. Raichand, Dr. Snehali Upadhyay and Dr. Achut Desai, Ear Nose and Throat consultation was provided by Dr. Ramesh Patel.. Chiropractic exam were performed by Dr. Kalpesh Ghelani and Dr. Manish Sojitra.

This Year, Breast Exam and Breast Cancer Consultation was provided by Dr. Sudha Shah, Dr. Shreeyala Uday and Shobha Tevar. Many women were received information and consultation in Gujarati. Physical Therapy and necessary exercise were showed by Nitul Thakkar and Vaibhavi Dalwadia.

This year extensive Body Mass Index were done and exercise to reduce the fat were shown by Hardik Soni and team

The Health Fair was well organized and went very smoothly. Many happy faces were seen that they received the medical services they needed at one place with out any cost to them. Temple provided Tea, Coffee, light food and cookies to all patients and launch for volunteers.
