Helping Hand USA for Relief and Development Presents Rebuilding Pakistan

Chicago, IL: In a building of Muslim Community Center (MCC) Chicago located at 1480 Elston Avenue,Chicago, IL the least expected to happen would be that a group of people have gathered to help save a battered underwater portion of Pakistan. Yet that is exactly what took place, and it was extremely successful as Helping Hand USA for Relief and Development (HHRD) explained how they were going to tackle the ongoing chaos in Pakistan that was caused because of the 2010 flood.

Though the floods were six months ago, that doesn’t mean the destruction it caused is over. HHRD explained that the sections of Pakistan that were confronted and engulfed by the floods are still in a horrible position. People are still in need of long term projects from relief agencies e.g.: water filtration plants, house construction, hospitals, medicines, schools, Orphan support, interest free micro-financing etc.

HHRD through the heartfelt donations of compassionate donors from across the world set out to provide necessary aid to the people of Pakistan by launching their “Relief for Pakistan” campaign. Their efforts provided food, In Kind donations, medical relief and shelter to the millions of affected people. Furthermore,HHRD launched www.reliefforpakistan.org website as a tool to record updates from Pakistan as relief work was under way.

HHRD helped in numerous ways to rebuild Pakistan and rescue all those who are being victims of waterborne illnesses, food borne illnesses, malnutrition & in need of shelter. HHRD fed more than 26,000 families in Pakistan, and served more than 2.5 million meals, provided 18,000 tents to homeless. Medical Relief was most necessary with the spread of water born diseases and HHRD set out to provide over 800 clinics where more than 150,000 patients were treated. The most heart warming aspect of this was the birth of 15 kids at these clinics. HHRD has many other projects such as interest-free micro financing, shelters project, Orphan support program, water for life, in-kind donation etc.

The night began with a recitation of the Quran by Usama Kamal which was followed by a warm welcoming from HHRD’s Regional Coordinator Ishrat Rehman. The night swiftly transition to show us a presentation of some of the projects that HHRD has executed in other parts of the world that is in need such as Haiti and Darfur. The presentation was done by Executive Director, Shahid Hayat.

Saqib Shafie inspired the youth and illustrated how they could help in crisis with reference to Pakistan flood. Dr. Shagufta Yousaf, a volunteer doctor who spent sometime in Pakistan after flood explained her volunteer experience with HHRD. The next presentation was on the Orphans in Islam, which was done beautifully by Sh.Abdul Rehman. The condition of orphans in Pakistan is absolutely brutal in which that at one point they were with their families, and the next day their families had perished underwater. He motivated the audience to support the orphans all across the world but specially in Pakistan after flood.

Motivational Speaker, Ahmed Dialo then took our attention with his remarks about importance of donating. He reviewed the actions that HHRD was taking and how each dollar can help change a life. Mujahid Ghazi instigated the crowd to donate for one Water Filtration plant costing 35,000 dollars. The funds were then quickly donated. The program ended with raising 29,418 dollars from just a crowd of roughly hundred people. These funds for one water filtration plant could help eliminate waterborne illnesses in Pakistan saving thousands of lives!

The dinner then followed a closing remark by HHRD’s Midwest Office Admin. Nadia Zeeshan. She gave a note of thanks to all donors, supporters, volunteers, speakers and media teams for making the event a success. Program ended with Dua.
