12-19-2012 Medstar Lab give Gift to children

The holiday season, the time of year for giving has always been held dear by Medstar Laboratory, Inc. Even in these tough economic times, when smaller companies are struggling to survive, Medstar looks to partner up with different communities in which they do business and try to shine a light on the holiday of some of the families who reside in them.

Medstar Laboratory believes in giving back to the community. Each year they pick a variety of Non Profit Organizations and staff members of Medstar including Owner Naren Patel and Vice-Presidents Neal and Raj Patel attend these events every year. Medstar Laboratory’s CEO, Mr. Naren Patel said that he loves to see the sparkle in children’s eyes and excitement when they receive a gift with their name on it.

This year Medstar Laboratory partnered with Father Pflager and St. Sabina Church in Englewood, Mayor Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero and Dr. Aliaga in the Little Village neighborhood. St. Sabina Church and Father Pflager, who is known for helping reduce the violence in the Englewood neighborhood, have an annual Christmas dinner in which they celebrate with the youth, those they help stay off the streets, and their families. This year, that dinner was going to be canceled due to budget issues. However, on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012, Medstar Laboratory reached out and sponsored the dinner and went beyond that, to offer 90 families a turkey and groceries so they can prepare a Christmas meal for their families. They also gave individually wrapped gifts to each and every one of the 110 children in attendance. Many of these children were not going to have any gifts to open this year and were overjoyed to receive these gifts. Medstar Laboratory staff members said they felt the love and gratitude from all and were touched by the children performing a musical dance.

On December 20th, Medstar Laboratory visited the Little Village neighborhood in which Dr. Aliaga, a family doctor who has been practicing there for many years was able to provide Medstar with the names of 20 single mothers whose husbands had run off and left them to fend for their children on their own. Women who have told Dr. Aliaga they can barely even feed their children. For these 20 women, Medstar also provided them with a turkey and groceries for their holiday dinner and brought 47 gifts for their children, who were not going to have a holiday at all this year. The kids were so appreciative and happy. It was a heartwarming sight.

Finally, on December 17th, Mayor Larry Dominick and the town of Cicero also provided Medstar with the names of 20 families who have been hit hard by our economy and who have one or both parents out of work. For these families, Medstar provided hams and groceries for their Christmas dinner and a gift for all 57 children. The families were very thankful for the help. This is something that Medstar strives to do every holiday season, to be of help in the communities they serve, and give back a little each time.
