Schaumburg, IL: In the heart of Schaumburg, Illinois, on a luminous Friday evening, May 15, 2026, a new landmark was born. Indiyaana Kitchen, Lounge, Bar and Banquets threw open its doors at 1301 American Lane with a ceremonial opening that blended diplomacy, culture, culinary artistry, and high-voltage celebration. What was once a neglected banquet hall has transformed into Chicagoland’s grandest Indian culinary destination a 22,000-square-foot testament to vision, resilience, and cross-cultural brilliance.
The evening began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, setting a sacred tone for the night. Dignitaries and community leaders filled the elegantly redesigned space as prayers invoked blessings for success, networking, and community building. Hosted by Mrs. Priya Sivakumar and Mr. Sivakumar Rajarathinam, the event drew an impressive roster of guests including Illinois’s 8th district Congressman Raja Krishnamoorth, Illinois’s First district Congressman Jonathan Jackson, Consul General of India Ambassador Somnath Ghosh, Consul General of China Ambassador Wang Baodong, Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison and many more distinguished personalities from business, politics, and culture.
Sivakumar Rajarathinam, the visionary Wisconsin-based restaurateur behind Sai Ram Indian Cuisine and the recent acquisition of Madras Cafe, has poured 15 months of relentless effort into this dream. “Indiyaana is not just a restaurant it is an experience center,” he shared passionately from the stage. The name itself carries poetic depth: rooted in “Indian Ana,” evoking the essence of Indian food in both Sanskrit and Tamil traditions. This project marks his bold step toward a Michelin-starred future, building on years of expertise while aiming for new heights in Chicagoland.

The restaurant’s concept masterfully fuses northern and southern Indian flavors with innovative twists designed to appeal to both Indian American families and a broader American audience. Executive Chef Jesu Santiagu Lambert, with 25 years of five-star experience, electrified the crowd with his presentation. Guests sampled highlights including the vegetarian Galouti Taco (a melt-in-the-mouth jackfruit adaptation of the royal Lucknowi kebab), Southern Spiced Chicken 65 with scrambled egg, and the showstopper Indiana Lobster (available in Fire, Spice, or Silk preparations). Other signature dishes previewed included Wedding Goat Biryani, Chettinad Pepper Chicken, Godavari Goi Fry, and indulgent desserts like Smoked Jamun and Kubani Ka Meetha with American cobbler influences.
General Manager Sat Kumar Daraj emphasized the meticulous attention to detail: “Where tradition meets innovation.” Every element — from the custom-designed peacock-feather logo and specially crafted cutlery to the thoughtfully curated menu — tells a story. The venue features a sophisticated lounge, bar serving continental fare alongside Indian classics, a spacious banquet hall, and dining areas that promise an unforgettable ambiance near Woodfield Mall.
The evening pulled with energy. Renowned saxophonist Femi Ogebule delivered soul-stirring performances that perfectly complemented the Eclipse Couture fashion show by designer Nam J. Models glided through the space showcasing exquisite creations, adding a glamorous runway flair to the culinary celebration. Guests also heard inspiring words from Congressman Jonathan Jackson, who flew in from Washington, D.C., praising the family’s vision and cultural contribution. Consul General Somnath Ghosh highlighted the Indian diaspora’s remarkable role in creating jobs and prosperity in America.
Architect Sunny from West Palm Beach, Florida, who has collaborated with the family on multiple projects, described the transformation: turning a forgotten space into a functional, beautiful venue with indoor-outdoor potential for future surprises. Real estate professional Kathy Thorat, who facilitated the property acquisition, shared the challenges overcome and her confidence that Indiyaana will become a seven-star destination.
Community leaders, pastors, and business personalities offered blessings and congratulations. Pastor Kent Muny delivered a moving prayer and blessing, noting how the vision brings diverse cultures together in a divided world. Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison, who has restaurant roots himself, praised the food after tasting: “Indian food’s my favorite… what I’ve tried so far is absolutely incredible.”
Interviews captured throughout the evening revealed universal excitement. Guests raved about the stunning transformation, the fusion concept, the warm hospitality, and the promise of becoming a new gathering place for the northwest suburbs. The event also featured media partners including Asian Media USA, Radio Zendi, and Di Junction Media, ensuring the story reaches far and wide.
With no social media presence yet but a dedicated marketing team assembling, Indiyaana is poised for a strong launch. The restaurant aims to open fully in the coming weeks, bringing diverse Indian cuisine, innovative cocktails, and exceptional banquet services to the region. Its proximity to major landmarks and excellent parking make it perfectly positioned for both intimate dinners and large celebrations.
Indiyaana represents far more than a new restaurant. It embodies the immigrant success story from late nights and doubted dreams to a bold statement of cultural pride and entrepreneurial excellence. As Sivakumar and Priya build this “third child” alongside their daughters Akshaya and Ria, they invite everyone to experience the magic where ancient spices meet contemporary luxury.
“I have covered countless grand openings, but few have carried the depth of passion, cultural significance, and sheer excellence witnessed at Indiyaana. This is more than a restaurant launch it is a powerful celebration of Indian American achievement, innovation, and community building. Sivakumar and Priya’s journey reminds us that with vision, resilience, and family support, dreams truly transform into landmarks. Chicagoland is richer for their courage. I look forward to many more evenings of extraordinary flavors and memorable moments at Indiyaana. Congratulations to the entire team the future is deliciously bright” Suresh Bodiwala, Chairman & Founder, Asian Media USA.
