Bhutia the Deputy Consul General of India in Chicago and an enthusiastic proponent of respect for every community Ms. Maria Pappas the treasurer of cook county.  The flag hoisting was done with great pomp and gaiety and attended by esteemed members of the AIA committee and community at large. It was a great pleasure to see many people of Indian descent from nearby offices and passerby join the fun. The AIA Independence Day event was marked by a crowd of 150 odd people full of beautiful singing of national anthems and patriotic songs by a budding young Chicago based artist Khushi Jain. National Indo-American Museum Launches New oral history initiative

Asian Media USA ©  Chicago IL: The National Indo- American Museum (NIAM) launched its latest Oral History initiative called Broadening Narratives on July 19, 2024. The event, held at NIAM’s Umang and Paragi Patel Center at 815 S. Main St. in Lombard, was attended by the Consul General, Mr. Somnath Ghosh, other invited speakers, and members of the community including those whose stories are already featured on NIAM’s website https://oralhistory.niam.org/ Funded by the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelly foundation, the Broadening Narratives project seeks to go beyond the portrayal of Indian Americans as a highly educated and successful immigrant group. It will diversify NIAM’s Oral History collection by adding the voices of Indian Americans from a broad range of socio-economic levels, including marginalized and under-represented groups, such as LGBTQ+, retail clerks, gas station attendants, people living in shelters or on government assistance, and the undocumented. He is the youngest ever and the 1st American to be a “Leo-Lion Liaison” representing the youth around the world. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. The event, held at the grounds of the local White Eagle elementary school, was attended by over four hundred people from White Eagle and the surrounding neighborhoods. Eid, meaning ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims. There are two dedicated times of Eid in Islam that Muslims celebrate. Eid ul-Fitr, sometimes called ‘small Eid’, is celebrated to commemorate the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr literally means “the celebration of breaking the fast.” Eid ul-Adha, sometimes called ‘big Eid’, or “feast of the sacrifice”, comes at the end of the Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj, celebrated this year on July 9th. Rita and Anshika Singh launched the academy at the start of the pandemic as a way for both kids and adults to get active while needing to stay indoors. Rita Singh is an incredibly creative entrepreneur, investor, and community leader based in Chicago. Her brand, S R, houses a variety of her own companies that fall under the domains of IT staffing, real estate, and entertainment. Her daughter, Anshika Singh is a technology consultant at a Fortune 500 company. She is also a Purdue graduate, former Femina Miss India finalist, and talented dancer. All their classes were initially taught virtually over Zoom for the first 12 months to ensure the safety of all students. BAPS hosted leaders of faith-based organizations at its centers across North America in ‘Unity Forums’ to have a dialogue on protecting and preserving Vedic Sanatana Dharma and to discuss public safety and other challenges affecting places of worship in the presence of renowned scholar of Hindu Philosophy and Sanskrit, Mahamahopadhyaya Bhadreshdas Swami.
