Bhutia the Deputy Consul General of India in Chicago and an enthusiastic proponent of respect for every community Ms. Maria Pappas the treasurer of cook county. The flag hoisting was done with great pomp and gaiety and attended by esteemed members of the AIA committee and community at large. It was a great pleasure to see many people of Indian descent from nearby offices and passerby join the fun. The AIA Independence Day event was marked by a crowd of 150 odd people full of beautiful singing of national anthems and patriotic songs by a budding young Chicago based artist Khushi Jain. Classical dance by Rashika Bendekar, Kabita Dey and an electric Punjabi dance by Madhu Arya ji and team added life to the event. National Indo-American Museum Launches New oral history initiative

The event, held at NIAM’s Umang and Paragi Patel Center at 815 S. Main St. in Lombard, was attended by the Consul General, Mr. Somnath Ghosh, other invited speakers, and members of the community including those whose stories are already featured on NIAM’s website https://oralhistory.niam.org/ Funded by the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelly foundation, the Broadening Narratives project seeks to go beyond the portrayal of Indian Americans as a highly educated and successful immigrant group. It will diversify NIAM’s Oral History collection by adding the voices of Indian Americans from a broad range of socio-economic levels, including marginalized and under-represented groups, such as LGBTQ+, retail clerks, gas station attendants, people living in shelters or on government assistance, and the undocumented. The Consul General spoke of the importance of a community capturing its own story in authentic, first person voices instead of leaving it solely in the hands of others to interpret the Indian American experience. The event, held at the grounds of the local White Eagle elementary school, was attended by over four hundred people from White Eagle and the surrounding neighborhoods. Eid, meaning ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims. There are two dedicated times of Eid in Islam that Muslims celebrate. Eid ul-Fitr, sometimes called ‘small Eid’, is celebrated to commemorate the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr literally means “the celebration of breaking the fast.” Eid ul-Adha, sometimes called ‘big Eid’, or “feast of the sacrifice”, comes at the end of the Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj, celebrated this year on July 9th. Asian Media USA © Chicago, IL: The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA – CHICAGO) 501 (C)(3) celebrated 8th International Yoga Day with Mindful Meditation Yoga in Naperville on Tuesday, Jun 21st 2022. All guests were ushered in by the Welcoming Team, following the Indian tradition with Chandan kumkum teeka and flowers. The yoga event began with the opening address, by the hostess, President of Mindful Meditation Yoga and Vice President FIA, Anu Malhotra, followed by a Welcome address by FIA Chairman & Founder President Sunil Shah, and an eloquent speech by the President FIA- Chicago, Hitesh Gandhi, followed by the addresses by Chicago, Senator Laura Clymore Ellman, the two Guests of Honor, Dr Vemuri Murthy, Chairman Chicago Medical Society and Dr Sreenivas Reddy, Chairperson of IL State Medical Board 2022, and speech by Special Guest, Consul Vinod Gautam.
