Asian Media USA © Chicago, IL: On October 26, 2024, the Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board (IACOAB) hosted its 10th annual Diwali festival at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, drawing an impressive crowd of over 3,000 attendees. This vibrant celebration of the Festival of Lights not only showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Indian community but also highlighted the spirit of unity and joy that Diwali represents. Diwali, known as the “Festival of Lights,” symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The festival is marked by lighting lamps, sharing sweets, and engaging in festive activities that bring families and communities together. This year’s event featured more than 25 vendors offering a diverse array of merchandise, from traditional clothing to unique handicrafts. Attendees had the opportunity to explore these offerings while enjoying delicious food from local eateries. Over 12 nonprofit organizations participated as well, providing valuable information about their services and initiatives aimed at supporting the community. Asian Media USA © Chicago, IL: On October 17, 2024, an energetic and inspiring fundraising event was held at the Marriott Chicago Northwest in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, to support Mayor Bill McLeod’s re-election campaign. In total, the event has been able to raise over $25,000, showing overwhelming support for Mayor McLeod’s bid for a seventh term as mayor. It once again proves how his decades-long commitment to the village continues to resound with the people he serves. The event began with a warm welcome from Neil Khot, one of the lead hosts and a key figure in the community. Khot spoke passionately about Bill McLeod’s remarkable commitment, stating, “Mayor McLeod has been a pillar of strength for Hoffman Estates. His leadership has brought this village from a quiet town to a bustling community where businesses thrive, and families feel at home.” He continued by emphasizing that Mayor McLeod’s tenure has been defined by consistency and vision, which is why the community continues to rally around him for a seventh term. Asian Media USA © Chicago, IL: On August 12th, 2024 Association of Indians in America IL- Chapter celebrated India’s Independence at Daley Plaza. The celebration was graced by Mr. T. Bhutia the Deputy Consul General of India in Chicago and an enthusiastic proponent of respect for every community Ms. Maria Pappas the treasurer of cook county.  The flag hoisting was done with great pomp and gaiety and attended by esteemed members of the AIA committee and community at large. It was a great pleasure to see many people of Indian descent from nearby offices and passerby join the fun. The AIA Independence Day event was marked by a crowd of 150 odd people full of beautiful singing of national anthems and patriotic songs by a budding young Chicago based artist Khushi Jain. Classical dance by Rashika Bendekar, Kabita Dey and an electric Punjabi dance by Madhu Arya ji and team added life to the event. Rupi Kaur has been in the USA since 2002. Her homeplace is Punjab, India.  She migrated to USA back in 2002. She is married with two kids and resides in Chicago. Rupi completed her MBA in 2013. She has had the opportunities to work with some of the top fortune 500 companies and is currently working in Corporate. She is also a Real Estate Agent affiliated with Coldwell Banker and was featured in the Chicago Agent Magazine in early 2021. A mother of two with a full-time corporate job and a Real Estate Agent, she still manages to get involved in the community and volunteers in many Organizations. Padmaja Reddy, at Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago by American Telangana Society (ATS) and Telugu Association of Greater Chicago (TAGC) with the support of TANA, NATA, NATS, NRIVA, NCAIA, IAGC, FIA, TDF and CHITA, on Friday July 8th. Padma Shri award is the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India. The evening started with the president of the Hindu temple, Bhakshish Rawal and entire team welcoming Padma Shri Padmaja Reddy and all the Indian Origin community leaders of prominent Indian associations in Greater Chicago area. July 11, 2022 EDISON – A local youth, Ojas Chitnis, was appointed to the Lions International Board as a youthrepresentative during their International Convention in Montreal last week. He is the youngest ever and the 1st American to be a “Leo-Lion Liaison” representing the youth around the world. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. More than 1.4 millionmembers in over 48,000 clubs are serving in 200 countries and geographic areas around the globe. Since 1917, Lions have strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects and extend the service impact through the generous support of Lions Clubs International Foundation. Lions are focused on supporting vision, the environment, childhood cancer, hunger, diabetes, and other pressing humanitarian needs to help address some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. “Love your neighbor as you love yourself” Asian Media USA © Chicago IL: The Muslim households of the White Eagle neighborhood in Naperville hosted their second annual Eid Fest on Saturday, June 25th. The event, held at the grounds of the local White Eagle elementary school, was attended by over four hundred people from White Eagle and the surrounding neighborhoods. Eid, meaning ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims. There are two dedicated times of Eid in Islam that Muslims celebrate. Eid ul-Fitr, sometimes called ‘small Eid’, is celebrated to commemorate the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr literally means “the celebration of breaking the fast.” Eid ul-Adha, sometimes called ‘big Eid’, or “feast of the sacrifice”, comes at the end of the Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj, celebrated this year on July 9th. This Eid honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. All guests were ushered in by the Welcoming Team, following the Indian tradition with Chandan kumkum teeka and flowers. BAPS hosted leaders of faith-based organizations at its centers across North America in ‘Unity Forums’ to have a dialogue on protecting and preserving Vedic Sanatana Dharma and to discuss public safety and other challenges affecting places of worship in the presence of renowned scholar of Hindu Philosophy and Sanskrit, Mahamahopadhyaya Bhadreshdas Swami. In the Northeast region, three events were organized: Long Island, NY, Robbinsville, NJ, and Washington DC, attended by representatives from over 100 mandirs and organizations. In light of current safety and security challenges, experts from local, state, and federal agencies conveyed the importance of maintaining awareness and being prepared, as well as provided best practices for security in places of worship.
