Vaishnav Samaj of Midwest
Bolingbrook, IL: On Saturday, October 23rd, the Vaishnav Samaj of Midwest (VSM) presented Rass/Garba by Bollywood celebrity and Playback singer Vinod Rathod for the benefit of Shreeji Dwar Haveli. Vinod rocked the auditorium with his orchestra of 10 performers. This was the second time such an event was held by the Vaishnav Samaj of Midwest in Chicago metropolitan area that attracted thousands of participants at the Bolingbrook High School, 365 Raider Way, Bolingbrook, IL.
Indulged by mesmerizing voice and music by Vinod Rathod and his orchestra, the program started by Garba performed by thousands of participants wearing colorful dazzling clothes doing whirling dances with clapping hands. Dandiya Raas were performed with equal enthusiasm by distinct rhythmic synchronized sound of wooden sticks struck together, toe tapping music marked the Navratri celebration. Navratri is worship and celebration of Durga Mata to mark by her victory of good over evil. The Navratri celebration also marks a festival of nine nights during which Hindus worship other equally significant goddesses namely Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati, the goddesses of health, prosperity and knowledge respectively. Nine days of Navratri and 10th day of Dussehra are celebrated by all Hindus with some regional variations, the most famous elaborate is from the Guajaratiās from state of Gujarat in India.
Vinod Rathod, the son of singer Pandit Chhaturbhuj Rathod (“Dholi Taro Dhol Baje” fame), is a renounced Bollywood playback singer. He has sung in numerous popular Bollywood films including Chal Mere Bhai, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Mission Kashmir and Baazigar. Rathod sang the song “Baa Bahu Aur Baby” in the Baa Bahu Aur Baby serial. His guru’s name is Aksh Bhardwaj, son of Mr. Tarsem Lal Bhardwaj his father used to be in Indian Air Force and his mother an air hostess. Vinod has worked for almost all reputed production houses of India. To mention a few : R K Films, Yash Raj Productions, Factory, Ramesh Sippy Productions, K C Bokadia Productions, Boney Kapoor Productions, Manmohan Desai Productions, Rajshree Productions, Mukta Arts, Bhansali Productions, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions etc. Not only a huge list of production houses Vinod has sung more than 3500 songs in various languages such as Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi, Sindhi, Punjabi, Bengali, Oriya, Tamil, Kannad, Telgu, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri and Persian
All proceeds for the event went to the Shreeji Dwar Haveli located in Addison, Illinois. Details about Shreeji Dwar Haveli is given below.
The event organizers volunteers and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of VSM, Dr. Umang Patel, President of VSM, and Prashant Sheth, Chairman of the Public Relations committee, did a fantastic job putting together event. It was one of the most organized events of its kind that Chicago has seen in recent years. The tremendous energy of the packed auditorium was evident with the non-stop dancing that lasted for hours with participants ranging from youth to seniors. The event also included prizes for the best female and male dancers for Garba and Raas as well as best dressed couple.

Prashant is the Founder and Chairman of Simco Formalwear – Garment and Uniform Manufacturing Company – located in Lyons. IL. He is also an Ex- Partner – Ernst and Young, LLP. He also owns and operates several tax consulting firms in Chicago. Prashant is the Public Relations Chair for Vaishnav Samaj of Midwest. Prashant’s key objective as the Public Relations Chair is to help fund the Haveli expansion project by organizing world class events. Prashant is married to Sonali and is a proud father of Pranali, Krunali and Chintun.
