Valentines Day celebrated Desai style with Music masti & Hungama

Westmont, IL: Valentine day is widely known as the “ Lover’s Day “ Its celebration depicts the signs of love towards the partner or girl friend or boyfriend At this time of the day they exchange beautiful flowers, go for a lunch at the desired hotel or go out for outing when they enjoy reality of life.

Valentines’ Day is fast nearing and love is in the air. It is time to have poolside romance, savor the scent of wild flowers and cozy up with the beloved one….. Busy work schedule are set aside as grand plans are being chalked out to make this day sprightly and most memorable.

Nightspots and clubs are gearing up for a perfect Valentines’ Day with a wide variety of programs. Love-struck couples are looking for the best spot to make the occasion grand and great.

Valentines’ Day was celebrated with much romp and fun in every nook and cranny of the city. Though many couples headed for various clubs and watering holes to make the occasion grand and memorable, several others rushed to ‘Saffron Restaurant’ for a change. The show presented by Shaila Khedkar, professional singer had Music, masti, Hungama and a lot of fun “filmy style”

While everyone celebrated Valentine’s Day with much fun and fervor, Shaila Khedkar and Raju Bankpur made it all the more special for Gujarati audiences. With passion and love filling the air, couples boogied to their hearts’ content. With red roses symbolizing deep and undying promises of love, the evening presented an ethereal feel.

The event took place at the Saffron Restaurant located at 6020 S. Cass Ave., Westmont, IL on February 12, 2011. It was attended by about 80 people. Abhi Trivedi was the M.C. & D.J. of the Program. Usha Kamaria, President. Indian Community of Niles Township, introduced Shaila Khedkar and Raju Bankpur enthralled the audience with old and new melodies. Shaila Khedkar has been singing for 25 years.

There was a young teenage boy who danced with an old lady before we were leaving. I could not catch their names. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dancing. The event was attended by singles as well as couples of all ages. The dancing was also as couples or as individuals. In order to dance, people were not required to have a partner. Also, there were roses for all the attendees.

Also, please write something about Raju Bankpur. There were guest singers also. The music, dancing and food
were great. It was a fun filled evening.

Shaila Khedkar is professional singer. She hails from musical family of parents and siblings who has been also well known singers in India. She was trained in light classical music in Baroda, Gujarat where she has been performing in school and college functions and awarded “Koyal of Maharani H.S.” on her graduation. Music gives her piece of mind and makes her feel good that she gives happiness to so many people with her music.

She has been performing in Chicago and out of state with well known artists and groups from India and USA for various social functions and like to share her God given gift to raise funds for good cause whenever she can. She considers Lata Ji and Asha Ji her idols and very well known for rendering Lataji’s and Asha Ji’s songs and gets lot of compliments from her audience. She also enjoys singing new fast numbers as well.

Recently, she was awarded “Versatile Singer” Award at MAAC function held on Oct 2, 2010 at India House. She performs on Karaoke and with live band and sings Guajarati Geet, garba, wedding songs, old and new songs, Marathi’s Bahvgeet, ghazals and bhajans.

Dr. Modi from Asian Media had an opportunity to find out Shaila Khedkar’s perspective for Valentine day where she would like to “Thank God, my husband Prakash and my children for encouraging, pursuing me, passion me, love me for music. Without music life would be a mistake, music is the poetry of the air, music all around us; the world is full”.
