Dorothy Brown Sworn into office for the 4th term
Chicago IL: Honorable Dorothy Brown, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, was officially sworn into office by Chief Judge Timothy Evans on December 3, 2012 at the Richard J. Daley Center. This will make Clerk Brown the longest serving Clerk of Circuit Court in the history of Cook County.
In turn, Clerk Brown gave the official oath of office to members of her Executive and Senior Staffs and other employees at the morning program. All employees of the Office of the Clerk of Court were deputized.
In her remarks, Clerk Brown said, “The Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court plays a vital role in the legal system as the official keeper of the records of all judicial matters brought into the court system, and by maintaining these records in an unbiased safe and secure manner and we help to ensure equal justice for all.”
Clerk Brown hosted an Inaugural Celebration where Cook County Board President ,Toni Preckwinkle gave a brief speech and a host of dignitaries participated which included Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Former Cook County Board President Bobbie Steele , Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans , Elder Jeffrey Hodges Pastor King of Glory Tabernacle Church of God in Christ and Rabbi Pinchus Eisenbach. Clerk Brown reviewed her plans for the next four years and announced new technology coming to the Clerk’s Office. A reception immediately followed and an Open House with tours of each division of the Clerk’s Office were offered throughout the afternoon.
Tour Areas included Payroll Department, Human Resources, Accounting Department, Criminal Department County Division, Probate Division, Chancery Division (IDMS Demonstrations), Domestic Relation Division Law Division (E-filing Demonstrations) and Civil Appeals Division.
“I am committed to serving Cook County citizens by continuing to shape the Clerk’s Office into a model of excellence in record keeping,” said Clerk Brown. “I am honored to serve the public in this capacity.” she added.
Dorothy Brown is the first African-American Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, who was first elected into office on November 7, 2000. Her unique qualifications and over 25 years of professional experience have enabled her to significantly reform the Clerk’s Office through focusing on technological advancements, employee training and financial accountability.
