YAMUNOTRI CAMP – June 18-24, 2012 Theme: Mahabharata stories, Values from Srimad Bhagavad Geeta and Gratitude is the Attitude BADRI CAMP- July 16-22, 2012 Theme: Mahabharata stories, Values from Srimad Bhagavad Geeta and “Serve, Love, Know” For the past 30 years, Chinmaya Mission Chicago has been conducting Vedic Heritage Youth camps for the benefit of children in grade KG through High School. Each weeklong camp focuses on Value-based learning while having age appropriate fun throughout the day. This year, the camps were held from June 18-24 at Yamunotri center in Grayslake, IL and from July 16-22 at Badri center in Willow brook, IL. Both camps concluded with everyone feeling inspired to live a noble value-based life with a higher purpose. During a typical day, children learnt values through stories, games and interactive classes in the morning, participated in sports and games, made theme related crafts and learnt bhajans and stotrams in the afternoon. The vegetarian snacks/juice and meals were lovingly made and served by volunteers throughout the day. BAPS Charities Mobilizes Local Communities for Annual Walkathon

Chicago IL: On Sunday, June 17, 2012 over 750 community volunteers participated in BAPS Charities’ 16th annual walkathon. In keeping with its theme, “Building a Better Community, One Step at a Time”, the proceeds from this year’s walk will go to the American Cancer Society. Illinois Wesleyan Graduate to Bicycle Over 4,000 miles for HIV/AIDS

Chicago IL: On June 18 2012, Illinois Wesleyan graduate Sameehan Patel will dip his tire in the Pacific Ocean at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, California and begin an epic journey across the country by bicycle. Patel and eighteen other students make up the 2012 Ride Against AIDS team that will cycle over 4,000 miles across America this summer. To Sameehan, the ride against AIDS is a unique opportunity to open the country’s eyes about a topic that has otherwise been pushed aside. This ride would give us an ability to reach people across the country on a level that a phone call or email cannot achieve. As a theatre major, he studies the art of how people communicate with one another. I would be thrilled to have an opportunity to interact with different people from different walks of life.
