Indian Dental Association of Illinois celebrates Annual Banquet

Chicago, IL: Indian Dental Associations of Illinois (IDA of IL) celebrated Annual Dinner and Dance Event with members and their families, friends and prominent leader of our community on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 in the renowned Waterford Banquets, 933 S. Riverside Drive, Elmhurst, IL 60126. More than 200 people attended this event. The attendees especially women in their colorful dress and saris enjoyed a social hour of cocktails and appetizers with friends and colleagues.

There were number of Labs and Surgical Implant Companies, Access Health Clinics and Accountants and Dental Specialists and Dental companies who sponsored for this event. There was also opportunity to stop at about twenty sponsors’ tables and learn about their specials and obtain free samples and prices. There was special arrangement to obtain a portraits by a professional photographer.

Following the social hour, doors to the grand ball room were open to welcome the crowd A welcome address for the guests by secretaries Dr. Raj Puri and Dr. Zishan Bader followed. The sponsors were recognized at this time. A brief description of the sponsor’s products and services was presented.

The president Dr. Imaad Shaikh spoke about the achievements of the IDA of IL under his leadership and his vision for the future of this organization. He indicated collaboration with other related specialty like India Medical Association, Indian Association of Pharmacists etc. He recognized invited representatives of various associations. Presidents Speech(Dr Imaad) was mainly about welcoming all and Networking opportunities within the organization and outside it. Mentorship for dental graduates and job opportunities for new dentists and hygienists. Dr Imaad also talked about providing dental services to the less fortunate ones(poor people) annually thru camps and free clinic day etc . He discussed about the unwanted number of dental schools that are opening up in India causing a job shortage for dentists and decline in the quality and salaries of the dentists in India. He also recognized all his committee members on stage and thanking all the sponsors and the guests and also thanked the IMA(Indian Medical Assoc) President and President Elect for coming and requested them to join hands with IDA for the betterment of the Indian and community in General.

The Vice President Dr Vishruti Patel spoke about the events which IDA will be conducting this year which includes seminars and Free dental Check Ups and she also recognized the UIC and Midwestern Dental students who were present there. She encouraged all to join IDA and become members .She has been instrumental in developing the IDA website and has encouraged members to visit the website for current and upcoming events. Vice President’s Speech by Dr. Vishruti Patel followed. She presented a brief report of the efforts of the current committee to engage membership and a discussion of the future seminars and philanthropy event.

Dr Raj Puri who is the secretary of the Association did a phenomenal job of Master of Ceremony and introducing the speakers and some performers. Dr Zishan Badar Jr. Secretary introduced some of the performers and also did the Raffling of various services and products offered by the Sponsoring companies.

Next was a buffet dinner of various Indian entrees’ and desserts while listening to soft Hindi music. Dinner was lavish and very tasty offered by India House.

Entertainment portion of the event was highlighted by a well- known comedian, Azhar Usman. He kept the crowd almost continuously entertained amused and laughing for more than half an hour. Azhar Usman who is a internationally renowned comedian performed and kept the audience laughing.

Surprise entertainment was presented by none other than look alike/impersonator of Michael Jackson by the name of Pete Carter. He brought the magic of MJ on stage with fantastic music and also got crowd actively involved in dancing. Michael Jackson Impersonator Pete Carter did fabulous dance performance on quite a few Michael Jackson songs and had the audience moving to the beats.

Live Music and Dance and DJ was final act lasting till late night hours. SaReGaMa famed Farhan Zaidi and phenomenal singer Gayatri Patel with DJ Saif Ali performed new and old nostalgic Bollywood hits that kept all entertained and delighted through the night and danced the night away. Saregama Finalist Farhan Zaidi and phenomenal Gayatri Patel thrilled the audience with number of Bollywood songs. Romail Bhatti did a phenomenal job of playing the Tabla before the program started to welcome the guests. DJ Saif Ali with his sound system was excellent. Overall the program was a great success.

Gayatri Patel was born in Fiji Island. She has been singing since she was 7 seven years old. Gayatri got her degree in Computer Engineering at Australia. She has won many awards in Fiji. Special thanks to Raj Patel for contributing 40 pictures (page number 59 to 70).
