Gujarati Samaj Chicago Presents Nostalgic Sangeet Sandhya at Historic Desplain theater

Chicago IL: Gujarati Samaj Chicago (GSC) Proudly presented Sangeet Sandhya starting at 7:00PM, Saturday – April 21st, 2012 at Des Plaines Theatre, 1476 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016. Recently renovated Deplane Theater was filled to its capacity. Over 500 plus audience enjoyed the program till midnight. It was an evening of Beautiful Nostalgic Melodies specially directed to the grown-up audience of 1st or 2nd generation Desi, Performed by renowned SARGAM Musical Group. GSC President Suryakant Patel and his wife Urvashiben Patel warmly welcomed the audience and assured them of memorable evening. The program was sponsored by Dr. Manish Pandya. Mr. Jitubhai Bhagwnkar, owner of this historical theater was also participated actively to promote the event.

Female singer Nalini Parikh started the program in her melodious voice with ‘Ishwar Satya Hai Satya Hi Shiva Hai Satyam Shivam Suneram’. Then she continued with other hits like ‘Sathya Sathiya….’ ‘Badmash Dil Tujhe….etc interrupted by thunderous applause and scream of “Once More” from the pack. program was amplified by live colorful and rhythmic energetic dance performed by Shama Shah and Madhuri of Bharat Natyam Mudra Dance Academy. This organization established and running since 1993. It’s director and team has trained nearly 100 students in Indian traditional dances of Bharat Natyam. Other stage dance performance included a pooja dance, ‘Adharam Madhuram. This was followed by Performance by four talented young girls- .Ghumru Ghumru’ and Bhangra Dance. Nalini with her gifted voice continued with more popular hits like- ‘Mushkara Jara Dekh Mushkara….’ Ajare Main to Kabse Khadi Is Dwar…..’‘Jadugar Saiyan Chhodo Mere Baiyan…. Ho Gayi Aadhi Raat Ab Ghar Jane de..’, Aja Sanam Madhur Chandnime……’, ‘Ek Pardeshi Mera Dil Le Gaya….’.Also included were duets with Akshaykumar and Saif Ali like ‘Maino bhul Chali Babulka Desh…. And many more’. Pravinaben Acharya, wife of Past President of GSC Bharatbhai Acharya sang solo songs; ‘Ye Dil Mujhko Batade Kispe Chha Gaya Hai,,,,,,’ and ‘Babuji Dhire Chalna with eqally thunderous applause from the crowd. Nalini with Kamlesh Shah sung another duet, ‘Aajare Mere Pyar Ke Rahi, meri Rah Nikhare Kali Der Se’ Now was thwe time to change the venue to givemake audience laugh by Pravin Khatri with his continuous funfilled monologue and Jokes.

Nalini returned with some more hits like ‘Nainome Gajra Chhaye Bijli Si Chamak Hai……’, ‘Ehsan Tera Hoga Mujh Par, Tumse Mohabbat Ho Gay….’, ‘O Bekarar Dil Ho Chka Hai Mujhko Aasuose Pyar. Program continued with tremendous encouragement by audience. Saif Ali sung, ‘Jiya Le Gayo Mere Sanvariya..’ and Zat Yamuna Pagal Diwana…’Kamalesh Shah followed by solo ‘So Baar Janam Lenge…..’J.C.Shah sang Likhe Jo Khat Meine, Hazar bar Meine….’, Vijaybhai sang, Kisiki Mushkarahat ….. Joining with Mouth Organ by talented Mohanbhai. Despite lateness of hour, almost entire audience remained glued to their respective seats thoroughly enjoying the unforgettable remarkable melancholy orgasmic evening.

Curtain fell after concluding petite remarks by Mr. Suryakant Patel, thanking all the members, volunteers, guests and performers. He thanked and recognized event sponsor Dr. Manish Pandya and all those members and volunteers for helped in making this event memorable. Surykantbhai also gave a brief description of upcoming events of Gujarati Samaj.

About Des plain Theatre:
Gemstone of village of Des Plaines, The celebrated Des plain Theatre had a grand opening on 11-11-2011 at 8 PM. This happened after a more than a year of painstaking renovations and restorations while preserving historic identification. Originally built in 1920, this old landmark brick building is conveniently located at Miner and Lee streets, in downtown Deplane, opposite Des Plain metra station with availability of ample free parking in adjacent village Garage.

Renovation included new doors and updating fire alarm system, removal of the drop-ceiling and a partition that divided the theater, uncovering authentic priceless original terra cotta detailing. Neon lights on the marquee were replaced. Mr. Dhitu Bhagwakar, who owns the building along with his two brothers along with historical preservationist Brian Wolf along with Mayer and members of city councils cut the ribbon. The owners are determined to make it work this time around by not only showing Bollywood and Hollywood films, but also having live stage performances in the large auditorium that will eventually seat up to 950 people. Theatre aims to bring and assist arts organizations of all sizes. Comprehensive rental plans including office space, meeting rooms, rehearsal space and performance space are available. We aim to create a community of arts organizations allowing networking and sharing of resources between companies said Mr. Bhagwakar.
