Chicago, IL: Where words fail, music speaks. This saying was truly highlighted on International Singers Day on March 9th at Ashton Place, in Willowbrook, Illinois. Organized by Desi Talent, Urdu Samaj of Chicago and AB entertainment, the event attracted about 300 fans, including social dignitaries of Illinois. Chicago, IL: Kalapadma Dance Academy Chicago celebrated their 24th Annual day Event with students and their families, friends and prominent leaders of our community on Saturday, March 10,2018 at the North Eastern University auditorium, 5500 St Louis Ave, Chicago, IL 60625. Students of Kalapadma, ranging in ages from 6 to 60 years, adorned in colorful costumes, dazzled the audience of about 600 art lovers of Greater Chicago land area. It was 3 hours of pure entertainment that consisted of Indian classical as well as folk, Gujarati and Hindi Bhajans, Bollywood, tribal and fusion dances which were presented by more than 80 students. Chicago IL: On Tuesday, the 13th of Feb, 2018 devotees celebrated the festival of Maha Shivaratri, in the Hari Om Mandir, with great joy and enthusiasm. As per the Hindu tradition, devotees bathe the Shiva Lingam with Holy Water, Milk, Honey and offer Chandan, Bel Patra amidst chanting of prayers, mantras and the resonating sound of Om Nama Shivaya….called the “Rudra Abhishek”. Living up to the tradition, hundreds of devotees came to the Hari Om Mandir to perform the rituals and sing the glory of Lord Shiva. Due to renovation in progress at the Hari Om Mandir, the regular ‘SHIV DURBAR” was not ready for the Pooja this year, so the Mandir Management had made special arrangements and set up a temporary Durbar for the Devotees to perform the Pooja & Shiv Abhishek. The marble statues of Shiva & Parvati were seated on a high pedestal, with the Shiv Ling below, so that people could offer Milk, Water, Honey etc and do the Abhishek. Chicago IL: The first ever launch of Ashley’s Music Foundation (also known as AMF) took place at the Tall Grass Clubhouse in Naperville, IL. Ashley’s Music Foundation, is a non-profit organization that was created by a very talented 16-year teenage singer Ashley Singh from Naperville to promote music programs in underprivileged schools in Chicago land area. Ashley Singh is a junior at Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, IL and has been a prominent member of the Waubonsie music program for the past 3 years. She is incredibly passionate about music, as she started training in Indian classical music at the age of 4. After learning various styles of singing for 12 years, she grew very fondly of music. She is fully convinced about the importance of music learning for young minds such as integration of left and right brain, concentration, self-confidence and self-identity. She herself is the beneficiary of leaning music and changes she has experienced in her life. She believes that music education should be an integral part of every child’s learning curriculum. Chicago IL: The Federation of Indian Associations, an umbrella organization of the Indian American social service organizations in partnership with The Windy City Bulls the official NBA D-League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls celebrated the Indian Heritage Night on Friday, February 9, 2018. It is a proud moment for the Federation of Indian Association as this is the second year in a row that the Federation of Indian Associations has partnered with the Windy City Bulls for such an event. This concept was created and presented again this year by Sunil Shah, the founder President of the Federation of Indian Associations. Indian Cultural dances were presented during the game by Junoon Dance Company and Kalashree Dance Academy by ToralChaudhari. Chicago, IL: The Federation of Indian Associations Chicago (FIA) celebrated India’s 69th Republic Day by holding a Community Event at Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Itasca Illinois on Sunday, Jan 28 2018. The event comprised of a blood Donation drive, a Health and Wellness Camp, Information on Medicare and Medicaid benefits, Information and advice on Taxation, College counselling, and Passport and Visa help. The event attracted more than one thousand people from the community who took advantage of the various services offered. The Blood Collection Drive was conducted by Heartland Blood Centers. The Health and Wellness Camp saw more than 25 doctors in attendance comprising of dentists, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic, Optometric, Cardiologist, Chiropractors, Urologists, Physiotherapists and Podiatrist taking care of people, around 325 people had their blood and other vitals checked, and more than 55  had an on the spot EKG taken for their heart issues, while others went on to see other doctors with their general and specific health issues starting rom dental issues, general and specific health issues, orthopedic issues, heart issues not to forget muscle and joint issues. Chicago IL: Right after a vibrant Lohri, Hari Om Mandir buzzed with activity once again on the 28th of Jan, 2018 to celebrate three Functions together, namely: Basant Panchami, Saraswati Pooja & the Republic Day of India. The temple was once again beautifully decorated to highlight the three different themes and keep up the spirit of each Festival. Yellow, the color of Basant, was seen to dominate…Yellow flowers, the people dressed in Yellow, Yellow Food served as Prasad & Langar, the Deities adorned in Yellow etc etc. The walls were also decorated with kites flying high, to revive old memories from back home, when Kite Flying Competitions were held on Basant. The Flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Consulate premises in downtown Chicago with an overwhelming participation of the Indian-American Community and Friends of India under the umbrella of the Consulate General of India, Chicago. The atmosphere at the venue was charged with feelings of patriotism and pride. The celebration kick started with the lighting of lamp by Consul General, Ms. Neeta Bhushan and Ms. Evelyn Sanguinetti, Lieutenant Governor of the state of Illinois.
