Chicago IL: Harish Bhatt, president of the renowned Association of Indian Pharmacists in America (AIPHA), hosted AIPhA’s exciting Annual Diwali Party on Saturday, December 13, 2014 in the Sheraton Lisle, 3000 Warrenville Road, Lisle IL to celebrate the upcoming holiday season with members and their families. Chicago IL: Indian Christian Federation of Midwest (ACF) celebrates Spectacular Christmas Party on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave, Evanston, IL. This was the first time such an event was held in Chicago by ACF. The attendees ranged from toddlers to seniors and were dressed in vibrant and colorful Indian attire. Despite adverse weather; Over 300 members joined the celebration of Christmas Party. Babu Varma and Clerin Parmar was the Coordinator of event. The program was highly successful with the active support of the Board of the Directors, Advisory Board, volunteers and various churches. The Banquet was attended by dignitaries including Rev. Timothy Rathod, Rev. Dr. John Rathod from Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Rev. Chicago IL: A gathering of music lovers celebrated Old and New Bollywood Songs on Saturday August 30th, 2014 at Masala Grill Restaurant, 2948 West Devon Avenue, Chicago, IL. Event started at 7PM and went on till 1:30AM with non-stop Bollywood Songs being sung by 20 singers. Both amateurs and professional singers pleased the crowd for five hours. Masti-Entertainment was started by Mr. Mujeeb Ahmed on June 15th 2012. It went from a handful of members to over 125 members currently and continues to grow. Chicago IL: Shere Punjab Sports & Cultural Club, Chicago held its 8th Annual Kabaddi Cup Tournament” Chicago Kabaddi Cup 2014, Volley Ball and Cultural Program” from 10:00 AM, on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Busse Woods Forest Preserve South, Grove # 5, Elk Grove Village, IL which turned out to be a big festival of fun, food and sports. People not only from Chicagoland area but from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin came in large numbers to enjoy this sports festival. The Kabaddi and Volleyball teams from Detroit, Arkansas, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Chicago participated in the tournament. Chicago IL: Dr. Virchandbhai Kahandas Patel of Skokie passed away on August 27, 2014. He was known to most as Dr. V.K. Patel, or “VK”. He succumbed to a lengthy battle with thyroid cancer. He was born in Langhnaj, India on October 2, 1939. He was the second of 5 children of Kahandas Patel and Jadiba Patel. Dr. Patel was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, community leader, and friend; he will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known him. The funeral/ceremony was held at Bohemian National cemetery located at 5255 North Pulaski Road, Chicago, Illinois. Besides members of Dr. V.K. Patel’s immediate family, the great hall of the historic Bohemian cemetery was packed with over 1000 well wishers who showed up despite short notice, working day and adverse weather. The ceremony was conducted by priest Jani consistent with Hindu Cremation Code of Ethics and Guidelines to send VK’s soul to the eternal journey to ‘Moxa’ or haven. His son Dr. Satyen V. Patel performed the Antim Viday rituals. Chicago IL: Kala Utsav, A cultural extravaganza was organized in cooperation with over 20 Indian Community Organizations in the Midwest on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Copernicus Center, 5216 W Lawrence Ave, Chicago. Kala Utsav was the brain child of Consul General of India, Dr. Ausaf Sayeed and his dream became a reality with the assistance of various cultural groups and community organizations. Kala Utsav gave a platform for various Indian cultural groups to showcase their best performance and expose their abundant talent. It is a great honor and proud for Punjabi American Organization to host ‘Teeyan Da Mela’ for all the ladies in Midwest Region of Great America as this is the only one event which is “Ladies only” where even the very shy ladies come forward and show their hidden talent without any hesitant. World Renowned Saint His Holiness Sudhanshuji Maharaj and his elder daughter Dr. Archika Sudhanshu, a soulfull Meditation Mastro graced the blissful event in Chicago from July 24th -27th,2014. Skokie IL: On Monday July 28, 2014 Muslims from all over the metropolitan area joyfully bustled into the Holiday Inn, 5300 Touhy Ave, Skokie, IL to join in on the global celebrations of Eid Ul-Fitr. While there were various venues that held Eid prayers throughout the region, one of the largest turnouts was at the Holiday Inn was at 8:30 am, 9:30 am and 10:30 am. The block was quite a sight to passersby. Groups of individuals in vibrant Indian-Pakistani clothing flooded the parking lots as they made their way to the exquisite banquet hall to commemorate the glorious day. Women in vibrant colored dresses, men in ethic outfits and children, smiling and laughing, filled the parking lots and were pouring into the hotel lobby. As individuals worked through the crowded doorways, volunteers from Eid committee gathered funds to recover event expenses. Demonstrating true Islamic generosity, many emptied their pockets and purses into the collecting bins before taking their shoes off and heading into the prayer halls.
