Art appreciation around the world 2011 held in Streamwood
An enthusiastic crowd of over four hundred visitors attended “Art Appreciation around the World” at Poplar Creek Public Library in Streamwood last Saturday afternoon, April 2. The exhibit, sponsored by the Village of Streamwood’s Community Relations Commission, featured two- and three-dimensional art created by area residents, who represented a wide-ranging group of racial and ethnic backgrounds. Items on display included watercolor and oil paintings, drawings, handmade lace, painted oak leaves, Rangoli, jewelry, sculpture and photographs. Arthur Baltazar, a local comic book artist and writer, delighted attendees by drawing caricatures of them on the spot. Rangoli artist Lakshmi Nookala provided an interactive exhibit. Ethnicities represented included Indian, Eastern European, Pakistani, and South American.
Streamwood’s Community Relations Commission, founded in 2004, is comprised of educators, active community leaders, administrators, business people and religious leaders. The Commission’s charter is to promote unity and cultural growth, while recognizing, valuing and respecting the diverse cultures in Streamwood. The Community Relations Commission’s motto is “Unity in Diversity.”
