Hand in Hand USA holds a successful fund raising event in Chicago

Chicago IL: Hand in Hand USA, located at 710 St. Joseph’s Drive, Oakbrook, IL 60523 celebrated their 10th Anniversary by organizing a Fundraising Dinner and Cultural Program comprising of Dance Performances by Natya Dance Theatre Ensemble on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at Ramada Inn 780 E. North Ave., Glendale Heights, IL,

Mr. Punit served as the MC for this evening. He started by welcoming the attendees to the 10th Anniversary celebration of Hand in Hand USA. He recognized the Guest of Honor, Dr. Gopal Lalmalani, an eminent Cardiologist, Business Entrepreneur and the current Mayor of Oakbrook Village. He thanked donors for their generous support over the past ten years, which has enabled the growth of Balashram, a school for Orphan kids in India which has 280 kids. These Orphan Kids are getting a chance to get out of the Vicious Cycle of Poverty. Their aim is to expand this school to accommodate 480 Kids in the next few years. He requested attendees to open their hearts and their checkbooks to make a difference in these children lives.

Mrs. Durga Chundury- Founder and President of HIH USA gave a brief report about the Organization and their current humanitarian projects in India which are Balashram, Outdoor Medical Programs, Health clinics, Disaster Relief and Mobile Units/Ambulance.. Next the MC introduced Natya Dance Theatre Ensemble, which was founded by acclaimed Choreographer and Teacher, Guru Hema Rajagopalan. She has been offering instruction to students of all ages for over 35 years. It is a critically acclaimed Dance Company which uses Dynamic Body Movement, Rhythmic Footwork, Hand Gestures and Facial Expressions. This style of Dance is called Bharatnatyam, which is one of the greatest Classical Dance Forms of India.

They presented 4 classical items:

  • Murugan Kavutuvam- A devotional Prayer in praise of Lord Subrahmanya, the warrior son of Lord Shiva who rides the peacock and vanquishes all evil.
  • Adavallan- The all-pervading energy and Cosmic Dance in praise of Lord Shiva.
  • Brochevarevarura- This item describes a Devotee who sings his praise of Lord Rama. He asks, ‘Who will save me other than you, O Rama!
  • Geethadhwaniki- To the music of Lord Krisna’s Flute, let us all Dance. He is none other than Lord Vishnu as Padmnabha who is resting on the Snake Adishesha. He is the savior who will remove all our sorrows.

The participants were: Antaraa Anandan, Veena Murali, Sahtya Gowrishankar, Shruthi mohan, Yasaswini Iyer, Shree Rajesh, Vidya Subramaniam, Nadia Mohidden, Bhavika Kagathi, Priyanka Balakumar, Deesha Bhaumik, Dhanya Asokumar, Chandana Kudumuri, Sahana Iyer, Abhinaya Wiggins, Arthi Sekharan, Tanvi Patel and Rekha Iyer.

On this occasion, Ms. Shaila Khedkar of ‘Sur Sangeet’ also sang a few melodies from Hindi movies in a voice reminding of Sur Samragni ‘Lata Mangeshkar.- ‘Jyotse Jyot Jagate Chalo, premki Ganga Bahate Chalo’, ‘ Ye Shama Hai Pyarka, Kisike intezarka’, ‘Lagja Gale Ke Fir Ye Hasi Rat Hona Ho, Ke is Janam Mein Mulakat Ho Na Ho, ‘O! Basanti Pavan Pagal nazare Naja Ruko Koi …..’, ‘ Ye Kantose Khichke Ye Anchal, Todke Bandhanwale Payal …..’, ‘ Aaja .. Aai Bahar Dilpe, Bekararomen.. Rajkumar Ter Bina Raha Na Jaye’, ‘ Hai Mere Ham Safar ….’ Etc.

During this event, they raised $ 90000 in donation. These funds will be put to good use and for the benefit of the needy in India.

Hand In Hand USA is a US based 501(3) non-profit humanitarian organization which works with Prajnana Mission in India to support a number of humanitarian projects in rural India and also in other parts of the world.   • Emergency Relief: Reach out during natural catastrophes and provide emergency relief in the form of food, medical support and money in different regions across the globe examples of which include the earthquake in Haiti and Pakistan.

Today our health and educational projects benefit countless poor in the far flung regions of India and we are slowly spreading our activities with your generous support to create further amenities for better serving the poor and the underprivileged of this world. HandInHand USA organizes fund raising dinner events in many cities within the US, conducts walk-a-thons and other events to raise funds. HandInHand USA is completely run by volunteers from all walks of life who dedicate their time for the sole purpose of making a positive change and impact in lives of many.
