Yoga Rave: A new wave of Celebration

Chicago IL: A trendy night club in the heart of downtown Chicago, Excalibur, became the hub for Yoga Rave, the counter party of the year. 800 plus participants rocked out to mantras and music from the Argentinean band, So What Project!, on a seven city tour to the United States for the first time. An unprecedented event, where the only high in the jam packed venue came from dancing, meditation and yoga. Yoga Rave was organized by the International Association for Human Values to benefit their inner city schools ‘Yes! For School’ and the ‘Prison Smart’ programs. The organizers said that they wanted Yoga Rave participants to experience a natural high, in an alcohol free, smoke free environment. Certainly, that goal became a reality, for all to witness as the crowds danced wildly to the beats of the high decibel Argentinian band, flowing into Meditation and Yoga.

Yoga Rave was a unique celebration that took the crowd from movement to stillness and back, giving the word celebration a new dimension. Participants described the event as “history in the making,” and a “miracle.” As the jam packed venue rocked out to music and wild dancing, a casual observer might have mistaken the enthusiasm and energy of the crowd to be driven by artificial stimulants. The evening however, was completely alcohol free!

Tika, a senior in a Chicago High School, meditated with a group of her friends in a guided meditation pprocess, as a peaceful quiet fell upon the crowd that was dancing wildly only a few minutes ago. Bill Herman, the National Director for the YES! program for schools said, Yoga Rave, is a party like none other in the world, a new concept in fun where the body responds only to the stimulation of music, yoga & meditation. It was a unique evening where one could enjoy both music & silence. “We envision a new wave of entertainment for young people, based on nothing but music and our mind to create an atmosphere of natural enthusiasm, celebration and joy,” he said.

The Yoga Rave tour, will bring the spiritual element back to celebration and the way we have fun, offering a drug free alternative for our youth to gather and release their energy and tension. In the words of IAHV, and Art of Living Founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar,” from the intoxication that depletes the energy to intoxication that brings enlightenment”. Our vision is to create a movement that will support all people to come together in deeper connection and celebration, without the fallout. All proceeds will go to support stress reduction for youth and prisoners around the nation. On the heels of the success of this tour in Chicago, IAHV hopes to bring this event back in the fall of this year, once again.
