Compassionate Care Network (CCN) meets with Albany Park Neighborhood Council (APNC) to discuss shared goals to provide access to affordable health care.

The CCN-APNC meeting brought together those from various faiths and backgrounds to discuss each organization’s initiatives to expand their combined network of affordable health resources to better serve all Illinois residents. Both organizations discussed potential collaboration in programming and goals. APNC shared its progress on developing a “Charity Care” program that would offer hospitalization and in-patient care to the underserved, while CCN introduced its new program of health education workshops for minority communities that suffer from above average incidences of diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Both organizations agreed to support each other in their initiatives and that a shared goal was to develop volunteers within the APNC and CCN networks to become “Info Givers” within the community to provide guidance and education on available health resources.

“As we celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream of equal rights among all Americans, we believe that health is a gift from God, which needs to be preserved, and that access to affordable health care is a basic human right.” said Dr. Azher Quader, CCN’s Founder and Executive Director. “We are proud to celebrate this day with an organization like the APNC, which has worked to help so many in the community.”

Immediately after the meeting, CCN held a free health clinic at MCC that was open to the general public. At the clinic, over thirty people received screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, dental, and obesity. CCN holds free health screenings every weekend at various community centers in and around the Chicagoland area. Everyone is invited to attend its free health screenings at any of its scheduled locations. No prior appointment is required, visit www.ccnchicago.com or call 773 775-3600 for more information.
