Six Gam Patidar Samaj celebrates Diwali modern way with tradition favor
Chicago, IL : On Saturday, November 5th, 2011, Six Gam Patidar Samaj (SGPS) hosted a splendid Diwali Dinner Celebration with SGPS Families, Friends, and Relatives. The event was held at the Holiday Inn Express on 3477 Algonquin Road, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008. The evening was full of exciting short speeches, delicious traditional Diwali chow, and entertainment with noted musical entertainment by Bollywood Dhamka, Mr. Amit Ganguly and Ms. Bejoya Ganguly.
Social hour began at 5:30 PM with appetizer and refreshments. Mr. Naren Patel (of Medstar Laboratories), Dr. Bharat Barai (Prominent leader and chairman of Manav Seva Mandir, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ms. Mitchell Mossman (State Representative from the 56th District) and Mr. Dilip Patel (President of SGPS) started the night with the ceremonial lamp lighting. Naren Patel was a primary sponsor of this event and he is the president and CEO of Medstar Laboratories and is an avid member and philanthropist of the Indian American community. He is serving as the current President of the Association of Indians in America Illinois Chapter (AIA) and participates in various other community initiatives. He has also served as a President of the Six Gam Patidar Samaj.
Event’s Master of ceremony was conducted by pair of talented Nirav Amin and Chandni Patel. They welcomed the crowd and wished them Happy Diwali and Salmubarak. Speeches by Mr. Dilip Patel (President of SGPS), Mr. Naren Patel (of Medstar Laboratories), Mrs. Vanleela Amin and Ms. Mitchell Mossman (State Representative from the 56th District) followed highlighting message of Diwali and wishing everyone prosperous new year. They also thanked members for their immense support over the years. Dilip Patel recognized and thanked Past presidents board members and volunteers for all their contributions to the Samaj. Mr. Naren Patel urged the youth to join the Samaj saying, “We need their input and support to develop new ideas to increase awareness of SGPS among their peers. They have great ideas, and I encourage them to share them with the Samaj”. He ended his address by urging guests to become lifetime members of the organization.
Dr. Bharat Barai and Raja Krishnamurthy, Candidate for US House of Rep-8th Dist IL addressed the crowd with happy wishes. Mr. Naren Patel presented a plaque to honor board of trustee Mr. Raju Patel with thunderous applause from crowd.
Vaidehi Patel performed wonderful Bharatnatyam. Name of the dance “Mahishasura Mardini is a dance that symbolizes good over evil. It represents Durga as a divine goddess and mother, being a war goddess to fight the demon, Mahishasura. Mahishasura has changed his appearance many times. She was born as buffalo demon, an evil elephant, and changed into a lion. Yet, Durga defeated them all. This dance is in Ragam Ragamalika and Adi Talam” After colorful and vibrant cultural dances a tremendous electrifying musical performance by Bollywood Dhamaka Amit Ganguly and Bejoya Ganguly followed. Curtain fell in wee hours of morning. While exiting, many in the crowd commented to Suresh Bodiwala, chairman of Asian Media USA “one of the best program they attended this year”.
Raffles prizes of $100 Gift Card from Jaya Tours and Travel and $50 Gift Card from Macco Auto Body and Repair-Carol Stream were distributed to the winners.
