Indian national overseas congress launches Michigan chapter

Chicago IL: On Sunday, October 30th, the Indian National Overseas Congress Organization hosted its Annual Banquet at the India House Banquets located at 1551 Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg, IL. The paramount objective of the event was to announce the Michigan sub chapter of Indian National Overseas Congress and to honor; Ms. Alka Lamba, senior leader of AICC (All India Congress Committee). Doors opened at 6:00pm with meet and greet session for V.I.P’s with the dignitaries beginning at 6:00pm for one hour. The dignitaries and the V.I.P’s were then escorted to the main hall where 600 plus people were waiting to welcome them. The event commenced with appetizers and cocktails. Lovedeep Singh Dulat, Executive Secretary and the Banquet chair made it a well organized event. Anju Katiyal, Arvind Sidhu and Hardev Sahu, all board members since the launch of the organization were seen busy taking care of all the guests and making sure that the event went smoothly. Avind Gakhal was very instrumental in planning the whole event.

The Chief Guest of the evening was Alka Lamba who is a senior leader of Congress, AL Larson, Mayor of Schaumburg and Raja Krishnamoorthi an aspirant to contest for Congressman were Guest of Honors. Alka lamba has held many important positions such as; Secretary, All India Congress Committee, General Secretary Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, NSUI All India President, General Secretary All India Mahila Congress, Vice- Chairperson NIPCCD Ministry of Women Child Govt of India to name a few. She has received many awards such as; Indira Gandhi Pratishth Award in the field of working for Women cause. Many prominent leaders of Chicago Organizations; Punjabi Cultural Society, Punjabi Heritage Organization, Federation Of Indian Americans, Jaat Association, Punjabi American Organization, members of Indian American Democratic Organization attended this event. The program anchor Mr. Sameer Khaja also on the board of INOC-USAinvited the board members of INOC-USA, the members of the newly instituted Michigan subchapter, the Chief Guest of the evening and the guest of honors to the stage for lamp lighting ceremony. On the stage was then called upon Mr. Vikrant Singh, President of Indian National Overseas Congress-USA, who welcomed and acknowledged everyone for their attendance as well as their continued support and talked about INOC-USA’s foundation, its agenda and future plans. He thanked his board members who burnt midnight oil to make it happen. He then announced the Michigan chapter and the CONSTITUTION & RULES OF THE INDIAN NATIONAL OVERSEAS CONGRESS USA were then handed over to the board of Michigan by Ms. Alka Lamba.

Vikrant Singh then introduced the Chief Guest of the evening, Ms. Alka Lamba who has spent 18 years in her political career and who came all the way from India for this celebration. Ms. Alka Lamba gave a rivetingly inspiring address to the audience, first in Hindi and surprising pleasantly the Punjabi audience also by speaking in Punjabi. She mentioned that politics in India is changing and more and more responsibilities in politics are being handed over to the youth. She said that India needs Indian National Overseas Congress participation in Indian politics and other affairs. She promised that whatever support Indian national Overseas Congress will need will be provided to support their agenda for the welfare and help of NRI’s (Non resident Indians). She said that in her meetings with the board members of INOC-USA, she has given suggestions as to how this organization can be instrumental in helping Indian Congress in North America.

In 2007 Alka Lamba was appointed as the Secretary All India Congress Committee (AICC) at the Indian National Congress She is Honorary Chairperson of Go India Foundation and Patron of a number of charities. Her inspiring speech was followed by Mayor AL Larson’s informative speech about Schaumburg, IL and Raja Krishnamoorthy. The evening ended with fun and frolic with a versatile Indian singer, Sati Satvinder who sang in all different languages and a heart throbbing performance by a UIC Bhangra team. A mouth watering cruise style dinner was served. Everyone present there stayed till the end and appreciated INOC-USA for organizing such an entertaining and balanced evening.
